In a landmark moment for the UAE\u2019s medical landscape, SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), a subsidiary of\u00a0PureHealth, the largest healthcare\u00a0Group\u00a0in the Middle\u00a0East, has successfully performed the country\u2019s first implantation of the Venus P-Valve system, a minimally invasive, life-changing procedure for patients with complex congenital heart conditions.\u00a0 The Venus P Valve is placed by a keyhole method to replace the pulmonary valve.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the first to\u00a0benefit\u00a0from this breakthrough was\u00a0Ameena\u00a0AlHosani, a 30-year-old Emirati woman, mother to a 3-year-old child, and a dedicated professional at the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office (ADGMO). Born with a congenital heart condition,\u00a0Ameena\u00a0had severe narrowing of her lung artery.\u00a0\u00a0This was\u00a0operated\u00a0on when she was 2 years of age.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Ameena\u00a0had lived a normal, active life, until her condition worsened with a severe leak of her lung artery valve leading to her right ventricle becoming dilated.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For many patients, this diagnosis would have meant open-heart surgery or travel abroad as the required keyhole valve was not available in the UAE.\u00a0\u00a0But thanks to the\u00a0expertise\u00a0at\u00a0Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, the team were able to obtain the Venus P valve and\u00a0Ameena\u00a0became one of the first in the UAE to receive the Venus P-Valve implant right here at home.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The procedure was performed without the need for open-heart surgery. Within just 48 hours,\u00a0Ameena\u00a0was discharged, returning to her child and her life with renewed strength and minimal recovery time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
